CHANGING THE SYSTEM

RED HOUSE has been developed in response to the long-standing lack of appropriate facilities and services available to those fighting to recover from chronic eating disorders in Queensland, and Australia. While RED HOUSE residential care is proposed as an eventual nation-wide program, it will begin as a pilot program in Queensland. Upon successful completion of the pilot program in Queensland a plan for dissemination to other jurisdictions will be developed, including individual state and territory implementation plans that incorporate and compliment the mental health plans of each jurisdiction.

RED HOUSE responds to the National Eating Disorder Collaboration’s (2012) statement that:

The urgent need to address the prevention and management of eating disorders must be included in the broader need for national mental health reform... Both incremental and radical changes are required to adequately address eating disorders... The next step is redesign and new investment to ensure that integration within innovative service frameworks actually occurs (p.3).
